Every now & again a subject turns up which needs to be photographed. In October 2020 such a subject turned up in Collingham near Wetherby, just over half an hour from home.

I’ve only ever seen Hoopoes on holiday in Spain & Kefalonia, and never in the UK. Each year a few get blown off their migration course & end up in the UK. This one, however, is the first in the Leeds area for 40 years.

I find them a fascinating subject with their colours, long curved beak & a funky looking crest. This one is possibly the most photographed bird in Yorkshire right now, and even made it onto the local ITV & BBC news.
