A Black Grouse lek is possibly once of the strangest sights in UK wildlife, and one, for a variety of reasons, has proved particularly elusive for me.

I had been given details of an easily accessible site, viewable from the car as a hide, so 4.30 a.m. on Saturday in April saw me sat in the dark on a moor in the midst of North Wales, listening to male Black Grouse all trying to gain the upper hand for the females.

It is a site I would definitely return to in future years.
